3 Steps To Training An Effective Direct Sales Force

Canadian Business published an article about the three must have strategies for mentoring and training a large and diverse group of direct sellers.
Switching from retail to direct sales came with a steep learning curve for Peekaboo Beans’ Traci Costa. “You have to learn the industry—how the financial model, logistics, selling, recognition and reward systems work,” she says. She emphasizes the importance of having strong mentors and coaches to guide her along the way. Now the biggest part of her job as an owner, Costa says, is training her sales agents.
Here are three ways to empower your direct sales force.
1. Be resource rich
“Because the owner does not see the consultants on a daily basis, it’s critical to get the right product, the right message and the right support for the sales force to jell together,” says

Keeping Brand Consistency In Direct Sales

In the early 1900s, the North American direct selling industry had but one poster child: Avon Products. Founded in 1886 by a New York door-to-door book salesman, Avon is currently the fifth-largest beauty company in the world and the second-largest direct selling enterprise, with close to six million representatives worldwide and US$8.6?billion in annual sales in 2014. It’s one of the most powerful brands on the planet.
Although Avon cosmetics may no longer resonate with many North American women, direct selling as a business model remains as strong as ever. As evidenced by the resurgence of 1980s brands like Pampered Chef, Herbalife and Nu Skin Enterprises, and the arrival of Canadian enterprises such as Steeped Tea, Fifth Avenue Collection and Peekaboo Beans, it’s clear the idea of selling products right in the living

Kiplinger Says Direct-Selling Is One Of 5 Ways To Make More Money In 2015

Of the many strategies to get ahead financially in 2015, one surefire approach is to make more money. You might be thinking that’s easier said than done. But it isn’t as hard as it might seem, considering the multitude of cash-generating opportunities.
In fact, here are five great ways to put more money in your wallet this year.

Ask for a raise. If you’re an employee, the obvious way to earn extra cash is to ask for it – if you deserve it, that is. So before you barge into your supervisor’s office demanding more money, build a strong case for a raise. Prepare a list of your accomplishments and how they’ve benefited the company, especially its bottom line.
Note any responsibilities you’ve taken on beyond your job description. And get comparable salaries for workers in your position from Web sites such as Salary.com and PayScale.com. Then schedule a time to meet with your boss to present your case. For more tips, including what to do if you’re turned down, see How to Make a Strong Case for a Raise.
Try direct sales. If you have the entrepreneurial itch and want to earn extra cash, you can start a side business selling anything from cookware to clothing to home decor to, yes,

Now that Pampered Chef, the multi-level marketing company owned by Berkshire Hathaway Inc., has a new CEO, MLM expert and dean of the College of New Jersey School of Business Bill Keep is hoping to get some support in setting clearer standards on what is or is not a pyramid scheme.
To do that, he’s published a letter that he sent to Warren Buffett earlier this year, with no response, possibly hoping to get the attention of the Pampered Chef CEO Tracy Britt Cool.

“I ask that you consider, as an owner of an MLM company, the value of having clear and public standards that differentiate a legal MLM from a pyramid scheme,” Bill Keep wrote in the letter, dated August 25, which he tweeted today. “Should you conclude that such standards are important to protect consumers and investors, I ask that you publicly address the issue.”

Bill Keep: No standard for what separates MLM and pyramid schemes
As Bill Keep and others have explained before, when you’re trying to figure out if a company is a legal MLM or apyramid scheme, the central question is whether their revenue comes from primarily from selling goods or from recruitment. But more sophisticated pyramid schemes also make some amount
