FDA Sends Warning Letter To DoTerra And Young Living

The Raw Food World reports: Essential oils are used in aromatherapy and may provide numerous health benefits.  These oils are starting to be explored by the scientific community for their effectiveness in treating cancer, HIV, asthma, bronchitis, heart disease and strokes.
It appears that the FDA is not too happy about this healing potential.  This past week, Young Living and doTERRA both received letters from the FDA claiming that their products are being marketed as unapproved drugs.  The companies are being told that they have to remove all health claims and take corrective actions or they face serious legal consequences.  Considering past FDA threats, these consequences would most likely look like armed federal marshals ransacking their warehouses and seizing all of their products.

DSA President Joseph Mariano’s New York Times Letter To The Editor

To the Editor:
Re “Riddle of the Pyramids,” by Joe Nocera (column, Jan. 10):
There is no riddle. Federal law and statutes in a majority of the states clearly define a pyramid as an operation that pays salespeople primarily for recruiting additional members into a network instead of selling products. The Federal Trade Commission further warns that pyramids may require members to buy large amounts of inventory, meaning you couldn’t consume it yourself, or unwanted items.
“Multilevel marketing” is not synonymous with pyramid scheme. The former is an accepted, lawful method of marketing consumer goods and services. The latter is an illegal business operation that should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Hundreds of direct selling firms in the United States (sometimes referred to as multilevel marketers) that are members of the Direct Selling Association are progressive companies with sound business practices that provide opportunities to millions around the globe. These companies, including Herbalife, have committed themselves to the highest level of marketplace ethics and a rigorous self-regulatory code.
We should consider the consequences to the individuals who sell and consume their products — and the communities their parent companies serve — before placing scarlet letters upon their legitimate businesses.
JOSEPH N. MARIANO
President

Bill Keep’s Open Letter To Warren Buffett On MLMs

Now that Pampered Chef, the multi-level marketing company owned by Berkshire Hathaway Inc., has a new CEO, MLM expert and dean of the College of New Jersey School of Business Bill Keep is hoping to get some support in setting clearer standards on what is or is not a pyramid scheme.
To do that, he’s published a letter that he sent to Warren Buffett earlier this year, with no response, possibly hoping to get the attention of the Pampered Chef CEO Tracy Britt Cool.

“I ask that you consider, as an owner of an MLM company, the value of having clear and public standards that differentiate a legal MLM from a pyramid scheme,” Bill Keep wrote in the letter, dated August 25, which he tweeted today. “Should you conclude that such standards are important to protect consumers and investors, I ask that you publicly address the issue.”

Bill Keep: No standard for what separates MLM and pyramid schemes
As Bill Keep and others have explained before, when you’re trying to figure out if a company is a legal MLM or apyramid scheme, the central question is whether their revenue comes from primarily from selling goods or from recruitment. But more sophisticated pyramid schemes also make some amount

Dallin Larsen’s Retirement Letter

In January of 2005, Karree and I, along with Randy, Henry and a handful of distributors launched MonaVie. It’s been almost ten years since that fateful day in Salt Lake City, Utah that would prove to be the genesis for perhaps the greatest decade of network marketing success ever achieved by a single company. We shattered records but more importantly, people’s lives were changed all over the world, physically, emotionally, financially and yes, spiritually. Not the least of which were mine and Karree’s.
The MORE Project was born and still today and hopefully for decades to come, the children will continue to be blessed in the favelas of Brazil, thanks to MonaVie and each of us and of course, to Sergio and Sylvia. No words can adequately convey the depth of feeling and gratitude that Karree and I have in our hearts for the MonaVie family nor will time erase the fond memories we feel for each of you whom we’ve had the privilege of serving. We are simply better, because of you and your goodness.
With Mauricio Bellora now on board as CEO of MonaVie, I believe that MonaVie can absolutely create greater success in the future than we’ve seen in
