Nature’s Sunshine Products To Close Vietnam Market

 
Nature’s Sunshine Products, Inc., recently announced a plan to streamline its operations and refocus its activities on profitable growth opportunities in response to conditions in certain of its markets.
The planned streamlining is expected to reduce costs, improve efficiencies and renew focus on larger and more profitable Company markets.
As part of the streamlining, the Company expects to close its Vietnam market, eliminate approximately 100 to 130 positions worldwide through both severance and attrition, and incur one-time expenses during the current year of approximately $3.9 million, which includes approximately $3.1 million of employee severance costs, $0.7 million related to the closure of Vietnam and $0.1 million in other related costs.

CVSL 2014 Revenues Up at $108.8 Million

 
CVSL Inc. [NYSE MKT: CVSL] has been recognized on two recent direct selling industry rankings.  Direct Selling News has named CVSL as #84 on the 2015 Global 100 list of the top revenue-generating direct selling companies in the world.  It also has ranked CVSL as #45 on the 2015 North America 50, which lists the top direct selling companies in North America.  
CVSL’s 2015 global ranking is 15 spots higher than last year, when CVSL ranked #99.
The 2015 ranking does not include CVSL’s most recent acquisition, Kleeneze, which joined CVSL after the rankings were calculated.  Kleeneze made the Global 100 list on its own, coming in at #100.

“For a company like CVSL that is only two years old, ranking #84 on the Direct Selling News Global 100 is an impressive distinction,” said CVSL Vice Chairman John Rochon, Jr.

FTC Commissioner Praises Direct Sellers

 
The direct-selling industry on Tuesday earned praise from a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) commissioner amid calls for greater regulation.
FTC Commissioner Maureen Ohlhausen praised the industry’s efforts to improve its self-regulation efforts during remarks at the National Press Club in Washington.

“I commend you for your partnership with [Council of Better Business Bureaus] that has increased awareness and understanding – and appreciation – of the importance that the direct selling industry places as an industry on ensuring it is an ethical and trustworthy marketplace,” she said.

The industry has come under fire from advocates who say more regulations are needed from FTC officials to protect consumers from pyramid schemes and faulty advertising.
But Ohlhausen said that sometimes self-regulation is “the only option for certain advertising practices where government intervention is limited by First Amendment concerns.”

Indian Govt Looks Abroad For Anti-Pyramiding Laws

 
From Saradha to Rose Valley and the Pearl scam, with a slew of ponzi-like financial frauds rocking the country in recent years, the government of India is also looking for solutions abroad.
Top government sources said that the finance ministry’s department of financial services (DFS) has obtained information about industry and regulatory practices from around the world in order to amend laws relating to ponzi-like, multi-level marketing pyramid schemes.

“A request had been sent to all the embassies and high commissions of India to gather all relevant information about legal and regulatory framework and industry practices for direct selling, multi-level marketing and pyramid marketing schemes in select countries,” an official document from a recent meeting said.
