She was an only child, raised by her mother until the age of fourteen. Her mother suffered from Lupus and passed at the young age of thirty-four. Her maternal grandmother continued to raise her and her cousin, where she learned the value of hard work, good manners and morals.
She went to cosmetology school after completing high school and worked as a stylist off and on for 27 years. She also worked at a manufacturing plant for 7 years holding various positions; assembly line employee, Customer Service Representative and Human Resources Assistant.  In 2004, she went back to school on the weekends to be a Medical Assistant while working a full time job
