Nu Skin Q4 Revenue Down From $1.06 Billion To $609 Million

 
Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE: NUS) today announced fourth-quarter results with revenue of $609.6 million, the top end of the company’s guidance, compared to $1.06 billion in the prior-year period.
Revenue in the fourth quarter of 2013 was augmented by $350 million in limited-time offer sales of the ageLOC TR90 weight management system. Revenue for the quarter was negatively impacted 4 percent by foreign currency fluctuations.
Earnings per share for the quarter were at the top end of guidance at $0.77, versus $2.02 in the prior-year period. Earnings per share for the quarter were negatively impacted $0.08 by prepayment fees associated with the refinancing of the company’s debt, and $0.06 by foreign currency translation expense.
The company reported full-year 2014 revenue of $2.57 billion, a 19 percent year-over-year decline.  Annual revenue was negatively impacted 3 percent by foreign currency fluctuations. Earnings per share for the year were $3.11 compared to $5.94 in 2013.

Nu Skin Q3 Revenue Down 30% To $638 Million

 
Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE: NUS) today announced third-quarter results with revenue of $638.8 million, the top end of the company’s prior guidance and a 30 percent decline from the prior-year period.
Comparable revenue in the third quarter of 2013 included $203 million in sales from the company’s limited-time introduction of its ageLOC® TR90® weight management system.
Revenue for the third quarter of 2014 was negatively impacted three percent by foreign currency fluctuations. Earnings per share for the quarter were $1.12, ahead of expectations, versus $1.80 in the prior-year period.
 

“We made significant progress during the third quarter,” said Truman Hunt, president and chief executive officer.

“We believe our business in China is stabilizing as we are seeing improving trends in the early sales leader pipeline, we strengthened our capital structure and balance sheet flexibility, we are making good progress in our product development efforts, and we generated positive operating cash flow.

We have also seen continued enthusiasm among our sales force at recent sales leader conventions in our South Asia/Pacific, Greater China and Americas regions.

6,000+ Nu Skin Leaders Create History in Southeast Asia

 
 
Nu Skin’s Southeast Asia (SEA) region held its largest convention yet, when 6,000+ enthusiastic sales leaders created history as they gathered to connect, network and share their successes with one another.
The three-day SEA Regional Convention welcomed visitors from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Brunei and Vietnam to the Singapore Expo Convention and Exhibition Centre from July 16 to 18.
One of the highlights of the Convention was the Force for Good session, where attendees learned about Tarisa Marito, a child from Medan, North Sumatera. Tarisa was diagnosed with congenital heart disease that forced her to use a pacemaker and prevented her from participating in sports or active events in school.
In March 2013, the Nu Skin family helped her receive a heart transplant through the SEA Children’s Heart Fund. Now a junior in high school, Tarisa wowed the crowd by singing a heartfelt song about holding on to your dreams. Nu Skin Publishes Average USA Distributor Earnings

 
According to Nu Skin:
In 2013, the Company paid approximately $143,266,000 in commissions to Distributors residing in the United States.
There are two fundamental ways in which a Distributor can earn compensation:
Through retail markups on sales of products purchased at wholesale prices; and
Through commissions (sometimes called bonuses) paid on one’s product sales and the sales of other Distributors in one’s downline sales network. As with any other sales opportunity, the compensation earned by Distributors varies significantly and is based upon the time Distributors devote to the business, etc. The cost to become a Distributor is very low.
People become Distributors for various reasons. Many people become Distributors simply to enjoy the Company’s products at wholesale prices. Some join the business to improve their skills or to experience the management of their own business. Others become Distributors, but for various reasons, never purchase products from the Company.
Consequently, many Distributors never qualify to receive commissions. Generating meaningful compensation as a Distributor requires considerable time, effort, and commitment. This is not a get rich quick program. There are no guarantees of financial success.

Nu Skin Celebrates 30 Years

 
Nu Skin celebrated its 30th anniversary by inviting its employees and sales leaders to perform local service aimed at helping children in need. The anniversary month kicked off with the company’s annual Force for Good Day and continued with 30-days of giving through June. With the aim of creating smiles for children in need, the Nu Skin family’s local outreach efforts ranged from assembling thousands of education kits to reaching out to chronically ill children.

Lawsuit: Nu Skin Paid MLM Compensation To Chinese Distributors

 
Several former Chinese distributors of Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc. claim the marketer of skin care and nutritional supplements authorized sales representatives to earn compensation on their “downline” network in violation of the country’s regulations, according to a consolidated putative class-action complaint that was filed last month in Utah federal court against Nu Skin.
Nu Skin misled shareholders, orchestrating a “massive expansion in China knowing that Nu Skin’s form of multi-level compensation violated many of China’s regulations on direct selling and prohibitions on pyramid schemes,” the lead plaintiff State-Boston Retirement System, a government pension plan, alleged in the 124-page lawsuit filed on June 30.
Plaintiffs in the consolidated complaint have requested certification of a class of shareholders who purchased Nu Skin securities including options between May 4, 2011 and January 17, 2014. The end of the class period roughly coincides with a precipitous decline in Nu Skin’s stock price (NUS: NYSE), following revelations that the Chinese government was investigating its business practices. 
Plaintiffs have alleged violations of Section 10(b) of The Exchange Act and Rule 10(b)(5), and Section 20(a) of The Exchange Act.
