Detectives wearing hazmat suits removed bags of evidence and a refrigerator from the suburban Milwaukee apartment of a man arrested in connection with two suitcases found stuffed with the remains of two women.
Prosecutors have not yet charged the 52-year-old security officer, identified by theMilwaukee Journal Sentinel as Steven M. Zelich. Investigators searched his West Allis home Wednesday.
Highway workers discovered the suitcases June 5 on a rural highway in the Town of Geneva, about 50 miles southwest of Milwaukee.
Police have identified one of the women found in the suitcases as 37-year-old Laura Simonson who was reported missing in November. Her father, Richard Wierson, tells the Sentinel that the Farmington, Minn., woman struggled with mental illness and that he has cared for her seven children since 2010.
The paper reports Zelich is an independent LegalShield, which offers legal advice. He is also a licensed private security officer.
After Simonson was reported missing, an ad was placed on a site called SecondCityClassifieds.com that claimed she was mentally disabled and had been abused, tortured and enslaved by Zelich, according to the Sentinel. The ad provided a cellphone number for Zelich which matched the contact number on the LegalShield website, and an email address for him that appears on an

Federal Grand Jury Indicts TelexFree Owners
by Tina Williams • • 0 Comments
The Wall Street Journal reported that a federal grand jury indicted (Formally and officially accused) TelexFree LLC co-founders and owners James Merrill and Carlos Wanzeler Wednesday on fraud charges tied to allegations that their company operated a massive pyramid scheme.
The indictment expands upon the original criminal case against Messrs. Merrill and Wanzeler, who in May were each charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with the alleged pyramid scheme, which prosecutors say caused total losses of more than $1 billion, including promised returns to investors.
In addition to the conspiracy charge, the indictment adds eight counts of wire fraud stemming from transfers of about $10 million in TelexFree funds to the two men’s personal accounts.
Each count carries a maximum sentence of 20 years.
“The defendants devised, and intended to devise, a scheme to defraud, the purpose of which was to obtain money and property by means of materially false and fraudulent pretenses, promises and omissions,” reads the indictment, filed in the U.S. District Court in Worcester, Mass.
Lawyers for Messrs. Merrill and Wanzeler couldn’t immediately be reached for comment Wednesday. However, the men have maintained their innocence since the original charges were filed. And in court papers, Mr. Merrill has

Primerica Says New Canadian Licensing Program Can Hurt Its Business
by Tina Williams • • 0 Comments
Life insurance giant Primerica Inc. says proposed new Canadian regulations could hurt its business.
The Canadian government is proposing to implement a new life insurance licensing examination program across Canada in early 2016. Duluth, Ga.-based Primerica (NYSE: PRI) reported Monday that “If this new licensing program is implemented under the terms set forth in the agreements, we believe it would increase the cost, time and ability of applicants to obtain their life insurance licenses in Canada.”
“Primerica is supportive of reasonable and fair changes to Canada’s licensing program,” the company reported. “However, we believe the new licensing approach will create unnecessary barriers to becoming life-insurance licensed in Canada and will negatively affect access to life insurance products by middle income Canadians. The new testing program was developed by the regulators outside of normal processes and we believe without proper authority.
We are hopeful that the regulators will consider our concerns in good faith and make changes to the program that will ensure the new licensing program is appropriately designed to protect Canadian consumers and the ability to serve them.”
Primerica reported that last year, its Canadian operations represented approximately 7 percent of its new life-licensed representatives, approximately 10 percent of its total life-licensed representatives (at

Vox Media: Herbalife Science Is Definitely Garbage
by Ted Nuyten • • 0 Comments
Vox Media is one of the USA’s largest and fastest growing online publishers. Based in Washington DC, Vox owns and operates sites in distinct vertical categories: general news, sports, technology & culture, gaming, dining & nightlife, shopping & fashion, and design & real estate.
According to Vox:
On the Herbalife website, there’s a section dedicated to “science videos,” where various company stakeholders boast that they “guarantee the very best science” behind their products, which are all “science proven.”
Dig a little deeper, however, and it seems the evidentiary underpinnings of Herbalife’s wares boil down to only four very weak studies that can barely be called science, let alone the “very best science.” If this is Herbalife’s prime research and development, then the company’s science is definitely garbage and customers should question the health claims on its products.
A look at Herbalife’s clinical trials
On a dedicated science website, Herbalife cites four clinical trials to prove the safety and effectiveness of its products:
1) The first clinical study compares weight and fat loss in two groups of obese men and women: the first went on a diet involving protein enriched Herbalife meal-replacement shakes; the second dieted with a standard Herbalife shake. While the study shows that both groups
