Nature’s Sunshine Products, a leading natural health and wellness company engaged in the manufacture and direct selling of nutritional and personal care products, reported its financial results for the third quarter and declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.10 per share.
“The third quarter reflected continued positive momentum in several key areas of our business which was offset by continued declines our NSP Russia, Central and Eastern Europe business,” commented Gregory L. Probert, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “Importantly, Synergy posted its fifth consecutive record setting sales quarter driven by strength in South Korea, Japan, and a return to growth in Europe.”
“Strong distributor leadership in these key markets combined with sustained momentum since last year’s global summit and launch of the SLMsmart weight management program continue to be strong contributors of growth. Sales in NSP North America have begun to improve with NSP United States and NSP Canada posting net sales growth for the first time since the second quarter of 2013 and the first quarter of 2012, respectively.”

Dr. Gericke is a medical doctor, ethnobotanist and ethnopharmacologist specializing in documentation, discovery, innovation and unique product development from medicinal and food plants. He has a particular interest in phytochemicals that impact the central nervous system and in finding solutions for tropical diseases including malaria. As part of serving on this board, Dr. Gericke will assist with research activities, educate and train NSP and Synergy distributors, and speak at various company events.

Nature’s Sunshine Products, Inc. a leading natural health and wellness company engaged in the manufacture and direct selling of nutritional and personal care products, today announced the closing of its previously announced China joint venture with Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical (Group) Co., Ltd. and private placement transaction of 2.854 million shares of common stock, representing approximately 15% of Nature’s Sunshine’s outstanding common shares, to Fosun Pharma at a price of $16.19 per share. Aggregate proceeds to Nature’s Sunshine were approximately $46.2 million.

Nature’s Sunshine To Enter China Through Joint Venture

Nature’s Sunshine Products has announced plans to enter China in a joint venture with Shanghai-based Fosun Pharma. The agreement outlines a multi-channel approach that places Nature’s Sunshine products in Fosun Pharma retail locations across the country and markets the company’s Synergy brand through a direct selling model.
Fosun Pharma will acquire a 15 percent stake in Nature’s Sunshine in a deal valued at just over $46 million. As a part of the agreement, Nature’s Sunshine will appoint one Fosun Pharma director to its board. The investment in Nature’s Sunshine will also fund a special $1.50 per share cash dividend to be paid out at closing.
The company expects that Nature’s Sunshine Hong Kong will drive long-term growth and become a top market within five years, says Chairman and CEO Gregory L. Probert.
“We view this joint transaction as both a testament to the strength of our existing business as well as Fosun Pharma’s confidence in our ability to establish a substantial business in China,” Probert said in a statement. “It marks a significant step forward in our transformation to a global organization with multiple brands and distribution channels.”
