From garden sheds to growth: Amazon Ads spotlights UK’s rising stars entrepreneurs

By Partner Content on Small Business UK – Advice and Ideas for UK Small Businesses and SMEs

From friendship to a £25M business

“We’ve been friends for years, so we’re really close,” shares Dave Wilson, co-founder of Gardener’s Dream. What started as a shared passion for gardening amongst three friends has blossomed into one of the UK’s leading online plant retailers. Their story is just one of many captivating entrepreneurial journeys featured in “Rising Stars by Amazon Ads“, an innovative docu-series that’s capturing the real stories behind Europe’s growing brands.

Think “Chef’s Table” meets “Dragons’ Den,” but with real entrepreneurs who aren’t just pitching dreams – they’re living them. After winning hearts (and multiple awards) across five seasons in China and successful runs in Europe and the USA, Rising Stars is back in the UK for a new season, bringing with it a fresh perspective on what it means to build a business in the digital age.

For Gardener’s Dream, this adventure has been rooted in recognising the potential of online sales. “Physical garden centre stores typically stuck to localised sales,” Craig Wilson, another co-founder, explains. “The three of us saw that opportunity.” Their intuition proved correct, with the company now boasting a £25

My Miami restaurant is expanding thanks to Trump tax cuts

As a restaurant owner, I enjoy sharing the rich flavors of my Cuban heritage with customers every day. Whether that’s making the world’s largest croqueta or serving the “hippest sip” of coffee in Miami, my small business is working overtime to compete in the quick-paced hospitality industry that is characterized by long hours and tight budget margins. But thanks to the recent passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, independent restaurants are poised to thrive – benefiting employees, customers and the community alike. For Sergio’s Restaurants, my family small business, that means moving ahead with plans to open two new restaurant locations and hire approximately 100 new team members over the next year. How? The new federal law restores 100% immediate expensing for capital equipment, which allows us to fully deduct the cost of appliances like ovens and refrigerators the year we buy it. The policy incentivizes small businesses to invest in operational expansion now, rather than waiting and kicking the can down the road.Additionally, the law also makes the 20% small business deduction that was set to expire permanent and locks in lower tax rates for pass-through enterprises. (These are entities in which business revenue is taxed as the owner’s personal income.) TRUMP’S ‘BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL’ AND ITS PERMANENT TAX CUT WILL CHANGE THE WORLDThe changes give restaurants like ours the long-term tax certainty we need to grow confidently and create jobs, as well as provide existing staff room for career development. But arguably the

Nikki Ribeiro: The New Face of Success at MWR Life

From navigating the chaos of Toronto to leading global teams in one of the most dynamic industries on the planet, Nikki Ribeiro’s journey is anything but conventional. Raised in the rush of city life and striking out on her own at just 17, she learned early on how to stand tall, even when the ground beneath her felt uncertain. That resilience became the foundation of a life that now inspires thousands.

“I discovered network marketing after walking away from a deeply toxic relationship,”

Nikki shares.

“I didn’t know much, but I knew I needed freedom. I needed options.”

What began as a desperate search for stability transformed into a purposeful career.
By 2015, Nikki was a six-figure earner. Not long after, she had built three multi-million dollar teams and crossed into seven-figure territory. But success, for her, was never the final destination. It was just the beginning.
As the world shifted, industries disrupted, inflation rose, and products became harder to move, so did Nikki’s vision.

she says.

Lead generation vs brand awareness: where should leaders focus their marketing strategy?

By Julia Payne on Small Business UK – Advice and Ideas for UK Small Businesses and SMEs

Faced with unprecedented, fast-moving competition, modern marketers often grapple with a critical weigh-up. Should they prioritise immediate lead generation to boost short-term revenue? Or is it best to invest more deeply in brand awareness to build longer-term brand recognition and customer loyalty?

It’s a strategic choice further exacerbated by the need to align marketing efforts with sales objectives, to create cohesive strategies that actually drive overall business growth.

Two necessary forces

While lead generation is fundamental to capturing new interest in a product or service and further developing the sales pipeline, brand awareness is equally as critical when it comes to making your brand known to potential customers. Lead generation helps to identify these potential customers, with the goal of converting them into real-world clients, while brand awareness ensures the market remains familiar – and resonates – with the qualities that define the company. Brand image also plays a key part in establishing customer loyalty through consistency in messaging and recognition-based trust, both of which are developed over time.

Given the importance of the two, overemphasising one at the expense of the other can have a lasting impact

How UK’s data law overhaul could reshape marketing

By Sachiko Scheuing on Small Business UK – Advice and Ideas for UK Small Businesses and SMEs

The UK’s new Data (Use and Access) Act (DUA Act) heralds a significant shift in the UK’s data protection landscape, presenting both opportunities and challenges for marketers and potentially even reshaping the marketing sector.

The DUA Act builds upon the groundwork laid by the previous Data Protection and Digital Information Bill (DPDI Bill) and aims to modernise data protection regulations in response to evolving digital landscapes.

Similar to its predecessor, the DUA Act seeks to strike a balance between protecting personal data and fostering growth and innovation. The changes come at a critical time, as industries, including the marketing and advertising sector, navigate a seismic shift in the business environment caused by rapid AI adoption.

The DUA Act promises to offer greater flexibility for marketing teams, particularly when it comes to cookie consent and the use of legitimate interest. However, for brands this means they need to consider how to effectively navigate this evolving regulatory landscape while maintaining a robust, data-driven marketing approach.

Clarifying legitimate interest

One of the most impactful changes in the DUA Act lies in a seemingly minor textual adjustment. Recital 47 of the GDPR, which

By Chris Sparling on Small Business UK – Advice and Ideas for UK Small Businesses and SMEs

Great customer experience is vital not only for retaining and increasing your customer base but also for providing valuable insight into how consumers respond to your product or service, which can subsequently be leveraged to improve your small business.

For smaller organisations, which are more sensitive to fluctuations in customer loyalty, these benefits cannot be underestimated.

Research has found that 92 per cent of consumers are likely to make another purchase after a positive customer service experience.
