Cerberus Nears Deal Of $170 Million For Majority Stake In Avon

Cerberus Capital Management LP is nearing a deal to buy 80% of Avon Products Inc.’s North American business and take a nearly 17% stake in the famed cosmetics company, according to people familiar with the matter.
The private-equity firm will pay $170 million for the majority stake in Avon’s ailing North American business, and an additional $435 million for the stake in the parent, which had a market value of $1.8 billion as of Wednesday’s close, the people said. A deal could be announced as soon as Thursday, though it could fall apart at the last minute, the people cautioned.

Herbalife Hires Tod Gimbel For APAC Public Affairs

Global nutrition company Herbalife has tapped Tod Gimbel to lead government affairs in Asia-Pacific.
Gimbel, who took on the position of VP of Asia-Pacific government affairs at the start of this month, joins Herbalife from public policy firm Landmark Asia, where he has been MD since 2013.
Gimbel returns to the client side after previously holding senior Asia-Pacific corporate affairs roles at Citi, Levi Strauss and Kraft Foods. Before moving to Asia in 2006, Gimbel worked at Altria.

EDC Sales Soar To $47 Million

For the six-month period ended Aug. 31, 2015, revenue at Educational Development Corp., which sells children’s books under the Kane Miller and Usborne imprints, jumped to $22.2 million, up 59% compared to the same period in 2014, and net income soared by over 300%, to $969,000. Sparked by those figures, EDC’s stock price rose from $4.69 per share on June 1 to $14.48 on December 10, more than a 200% gain. And for the first nine months of the current fiscal year (March through November), Randall White, chairman, president, and CEO of EDC, estimated that revenue was about $47 million—far higher than the $32 million in sales the company generated for the fiscal year ended Feb. 28, 2015.
