Thirty-One Gifts To close Its Springfield Facility

 

Thirty-One Gifts, which just four years ago pledged as many as 500 jobs for the area, will close its Springfield facility in January.
The closing, announced Thursday afternoon, will affect 74 employees at the company as well as an undisclosed number of workers at Exel Logistics, a local subcontractor.
“We will consolidate our distribution and personalization activities to our home office in Easton in Columbus, closing our Johnstown and Springfield facilities in 2016,” Thirty-One Gifts said in a press release. “We are making these changes to align our operating capacity with business needs. Operations at Easton will continue without interruption.”
Thirty-One Gifts was founded in 2003 in Tennessee in the basement of Cindy Monroe, the company’s CEO and founder. The Springfield location produces handbags, fashion accessories, totes and other products, and personalizes them with monograms

DSA Celebrates Third Annual Direct Selling Day On Capitol Hill

 

More than 500 independent direct selling consultants representing 20 companies, 32 states, and the District of Columbia met with members of Congress today during Direct Selling Association’s (DSA’s) third annual Direct Selling Day on Capitol Hill.

 

“Direct selling is one of the oldest ways entrepreneurial-minded Americans have chosen to work independently, and there is tremendous value to those who become involved and to our economy.” said Joseph N. Mariano, President of DSA.
 
Direct sellers visited Washington, D.C. to discuss the importance of direct selling to the economy and remind policymakers of the opportunity it provides to pursue meaningful independent work.

Nu Skin 2015 Q3 Revenue Down 10.6% To $571.3 Million

 
Nu Skin Enterprises, reported revenue of $571.30 million for the quarter, compared to analysts expectations of $581.91 million.The company’s revenue was down -10.6% compared to the same quarter last year. During the same quarter in the previous year.
“With the introductions of ageLOC Me and ageLOC Youth, we are beginning a new business cycle that we believe will drive meaningful growth,” said Hunt.

India’s AP, Telangana States Project $765 Million Direct Selling Market By 2025

 
The direct selling market in India’s Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states has the potential to attain a market size of Rs 50 billion (approx $765 million) by 2025, according to a FICCI KPMG report. 
The market at present is worth approximately Rs 3.3-3.5 billion. 

“AP and Telangana’s Direct selling Industry could potentially reach a size of Rs 50 billion by 2025. The sector’s contribution to the state governments revenue is expected to reach Rs 4.5-Rs 5 billion by the same period,” said the report on “Direct Selling Andhra Pradesh and Telangana-Global Industry Empowering Millions in India.”

Fifth Circuit Decertifies Class Action Suit Against Stream

 
Stream, a leading direct selling company and provider of essential services, on October 16 realized a key appellate victory in its ongoing Federal class action litigation before the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.
Arising out of oral arguments held during February 2015, the Fifth Circuit panel voted to decertify a purported class of plaintiffs whose two named representatives alleged violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. This appellate ruling reverses a prior January 2014 order of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas that erroneously certified a class of plaintiffs consisting of current and former Stream Independent Associates.
The Federal class action lawsuit in question alleges that Stream operates a pyramid scheme in violation of Federal racketeering laws. Stream has vehemently denied these charges and

Solar Sisters Promote Energy Access Through Direct Selling

Neha Misra, Co-founder and Chief Collaboration Officer at Solar Sister, was trying to explain the structure of Solar Sister, the NGO she helped create—an NGO that counts Exxon Mobil Women’s Economic Opportunity Initiative, UN Women, and USAID among its partners.
In response to her question, about half of the conference attendees confidently raised their hands and promptly began to chuckle at the attendees with both hands at their sides, bemusedly looking around. Surprise, surprise: Most of the attendees with a hand raised were women; those who didn’t recognize Avon were mostly men.
This all took place at a Millennium Challenge Corporation panel discussion on development initiatives that promote both gender equality and energy access. …So what does Avon have to do with energy access or gender-inclusive development initiatives?
