Tupperware 3Q Results – Shares Fall 24%

 
Tupperware Brands Corp. (TUP) on Wednesday reported third-quarter earnings of $32.3 million.
The Orlando, Florida-based company said it had profit of 63 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 90 cents per share.
The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 91 cents per share.
The direct seller of plastic storage containers and cosmetics posted revenue of $588.7 million in the period, which beat Street forecasts. Analysts expected $587.9 million, according to Zacks.
For the current quarter ending in December, Tupperware expects its per-share earnings to range from $1.55 to $1.60. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had forecast adjusted earnings per share of $1.70.
The company expects full-year earnings in the range of $5.21 to $5.26 per share.
Tupperware shares have fallen 24 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has declined 23 percent in the last 12 months.

Aspire Worldwide Under Investigation

 
Mobile payments and loyalty scheme Aspire Worldwide (AU) Pty Ltd is the subject of an Australian Competition and Consumer Commission investigation into whether the scheme complies with Australian Consumer Law, news.com.au understands.
Aspire is a cashback shopping scheme, where customers (known as franchisees) are asked to pay a joining fee, with the promise they’ll earn a ‘passive income’ once they get small businesses to also sign onto the scheme.
The joining fees range from $3000, to $22,000 as a “coach mentor franchisee”.
One of its founders, UK-based motivational speaker Andy Hansen, was involved in the early promotion in 2011 of the Lyoness cashback scheme in Australia, which iscurrently being sued by the ACCC over allegedly operating a pyramid scheme and engaging in referral selling.
Lyoness denies any wrongdoing and says it will “vigorously defend” the action. A directions hearing was held last month and the matter will resume in February next year.
In defence documents filed with the Federal Court this week, Lyoness distanced itself from Mr Hansen and his associates, Wendy Hansen, Phil Watts and Sally Watts — who referred to themselves as “Global Go Getters” in online training webinars — claiming they were neither employed by Lyoness nor acting on its behalf at the time.

$43 Million Invested Into Origami Owl

 
Gauge Capital has closed its first round of funding after raising $250 million.
The money, which exceeded Gauge’s fundraising goals, was accumulated through more than 15 investors, including endowments, institutional investors and CEOs. Co-founder and managing partnerDrew Johnson said he and his partners at Gauge made the most significant contributions to the fund.
With the cash, Gauge plans to invest in the food services, healthcare and business and consumer services sectors. Businesses must have $5 million to $50 million in earnings before interest, depreciation, taxes and amortization, or EBIDTA. Gauge then makes investments of $10 million to $50 million in each company.

“Our goal has been to find companies in those sectors, make investments and generate exceptional returns,” Johnson said.

Gauge already has made a $43 million investment out of the fund in Origami Owl, a company that allows individuals to sell their own jewelry. Three additional investments are around the corner.
“We have one under letter of intent in the healthcare services space,” Johnson said, but added that he can’t give details yet.
