Avon Appoints New General Manager To Drive Growth In India

Avon Products, Inc. (NYSE: AVP), a global leader in direct selling of beauty products, today announced that Dronacharya Chakraborty has been appointed General Manager, India, effective immediately. Mr. Chakraborty will report to Bill Rahn, Global Vice President, Asia Pacific (APAC).
The appointment advances Avon’s strategy to drive growth and better capture the significant opportunity in India, a market in which Avon has 50% brand awareness but low penetration.
Mr. Chakraborty brings 20 years of experience in direct selling and the personal care industry. He joins Avon from PM International India Pvt. Ltd., a direct selling company where he was General Manager, Sales. Prior to that, Mr. Chakraborty spent 12 years with Herbalife International India Pvt. Ltd. in various roles of increasing responsibility, including Director for Government Affairs and Director for Sales & Distributor Communications.

Oriflame’s Magnus Brannstrom Gets Candid About Direct Selling In India

Magnus Brannstrom, CEO and president of Swedish direct selling company Orifame, doesn’t believe in mincing words. Founded in 1967, Oriflame has a sizeable presence in 60 plus countries, with over 3 million beauty consultants, generating annual sales of around €1.2 billion.
In India, it’s been battling headwinds since its debut in 1996. “The first 20 years were very tough in terms of profitability,” confesses Brannstrom. He claims India is now profitable but declines to share numbers, citing global policies. Asserting that India is among the Top 5 markets for Oriflame, he contends that the Indian obsession with white skin is not unique. “The grass is always greener on the other side,” he grins, adding that while Indians want to look white, Westerners are keen to get tanned.

Supreme Court Of India Rules In Favor Of QNET

 
In a major development the Supreme Court has ordered a stay on all further proceedings against direct selling company QNET and its franchisee Vihaan Direct Selling Pvt Ltd (Vihaan).
It fundamentally also granted bail to its Indian shareholders Michael Ferreira and Malckolm Desai. QNet, which has been under investigation since 2013, views this with positivity thereby.
The order comes at a timely moment given the backdrop of the model Direct Selling Guidelines issued by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs for proper functioning of Direct Selling companies in India.
In an interim order, a two-judge bench comprising Mr. Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose and Mr. Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman categorically stayed all FIRs against the business of QNET in India.
The Supreme Court has also stayed further proceedings in all 19 FIRs against the company across India.

Amway 500,000 Distributors In India

 
According to an interview Amway President Dog deVos had with Economic Times, a magazine in India, Amway has half a million distributors in that country.
Amway, the world’s biggest direct seller, has bet big on India, having invested heavily in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and physical infrastructure. The Indian arm of the USbased company, Amway India, offers more than 130 products via the direct selling channel.
The company relies on a network of approximately 500,000 direct sellers to sell nutrition, beauty, personal care and home care products to consumers.
Products are manufactured in the company’s manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, India.
