What the UK can learn from Estonia as the destination to start a business

Estonia has the highest concentration of entrepreneurs in Europe, according to research.
Nearly one in five adults (19.4 per cent) see themselves as either a would-be entrepreneur or owner/manager of a new business in the Baltic state.
Montenegro (14.9 per cent) and Turkey (14.2 per cent) were in second and third place when it comes to the concentration of start-ups, according to tech supplier RS Components.

The UK by comparison ranked in 17th place in Europe with 8.2 per cent of the country being entrepreneurs. In fact, Britain lags behind Kazakhstan and Romania when it comes to entrepreneurial activity.

Lyoness Refutes Pyramid Allegations In Estonia

 
On 13 October 2015 Radar Channel 2 in Estonia featured a report alleging that Lyoness was operating a pyramid scheme and provided the case of a group of hearing impaired people who claimed to have been misled by representatives and lost money. A consumer protection board in Estonia has reportedly ordered a refund by the company to some of these hearing impaired individuals.
Lyoness has responded to these allegations by refuting all claims of operating a pyramid scheme.
In its response Lyoness states that it has now been operating for over 12 years and in 46 countries and has become one of the world’s largest shopping communities. The company has more than five million members and over 50,000 loyalty merchants around the world.

Baltic direct selling market grew by 2.5% in 2014

 
In 2014, the total sales of direct selling industry in the Baltic States grew by 2.5% and exceeded 102,5 million euro (without VAT). Meanwhile, the number of people involved in direct sales increased by 1.5% and it reached more than 128 thousand persons.
In Estonia, the volume of direct sales experienced the biggest growth by 3%, in Lithuania – 2.5% and in Latvia – 2% and was respectively 32.5, 40.4 and 27.5 million euro, while the number of direct sellers (consultants) in Lithuania and Latvia increased by 2% and exceeded respectively 50000 and 44000 persons, in Estonia by 1% up to more than 34500 persons.
