doTERRA Recognized As Best Of State

 
On Saturday, thousands of businessmen and businesswomen filled the Salt Palace Convention Center Ballroom to honor Utah companies receiving the Best of State Awards. One of the companies recognized at the black tie event was doTERRA International, LLC, based in Pleasant Grove, Utah. 
doTERRA received the Best of State Award for Essential Oils/Botanicals in the Merchandising and Consumer Services Category, making it the only essential oil company recognized at the Gala.
The Best of State Awards were created to recognize the people, organizations, and businesses that are achieving, innovating, and improving the quality of life in Utah. Judges review submitted material and online nominations, and assign three separate scores to each nominee, for a total of 100 possible points.
Fifty percent of the points are for overall achievement and excellence in service, products, or performance.

Avon Having Trouble Getting Rid Of North American Business, Sales Plummet

 
Avon shares slid by more than 7% on Tuesday to around $7.53 a share.
Last month, the stock surged by more than 15% after the Wall Street Journal reported that it is exploring “strategic alternatives” for its North American business, meaning the company is looking for ways to improve its competitiveness.
The initial report from WSJ said the company is looking to sell some or all of this unit. But according to a New York Post story published late Tuesday, this process isn’t going very well.
The Post reported that companies interested in buying out Avon are losing interest because they are struggling to finance an offer.

The Post quotes one hedge fund investor as saying: “All in all, I don’t see a deal happening unless Avon basically gives away its North America business for essentially nothing.”

Herbalife Contacted By Law Enforcement Agencies

 
Federal law enforcement agencies recently contacted several Herbalife members for information about their own business practices, CNBC has learned.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the inquiries came last week and focused on the activities of 10 or so mostly top Herbalife members.
It’s unclear exactly what law enforcement asked for, or the identities of the specific members in question.
Sources say the company has offered the members assistance in obtaining legal counsel though it’s unclear how many have sought representation.
Separately, Herbalife has also received inquiries recently about irregular trading in its stock as part of a broader investigation into possible market manipulation.
When asked for a comment on Sunday evening Herbalife spokesman Alan Hoffman provided CNBC the following statement:

Melaleuca CEO Frank L. Vandersloot, will receive the prestigious Horatio Alger award this weekend during a ceremony in the nation’s capitol.
The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, is a nonprofit educational organization honoring the achievements of outstanding individuals. The group also encourages youth to pursue their dreams through higher education. VanderSloot joins eleven other accomplished business and civic leaders from across North America in receiving the award this year. 
Since its establishment in 1947, the Horatio Alger Award is annually bestowed upon renowned leaders who have succeeded despite facing adversity, and who are committed to philanthropy and higher education.

ItWorks! CEO Donates $3 Million To Michigan State University

 

Michigan State received a $3 million gift that will help support the men’s basketball program, according to a release from the university Thursday.
Mark and Cindy Pentecost’s donation will be used to update the men’s basketball offices, practice facilities and “establish an endowment for continued facility improvements,” according to the release.
The gift is one of the largest ever to Michigan State athletics, and is the third gift of $3 million or more received by the athletic department since the October 2014 public launch of the Empower Extraordinary, which according to the release is “enabling MSU athletics to build championship-level facilities, increase endowment support and elevate annual giving.”
“For many Spartans around the world, the men’s basketball program has been a source of pride and an engine of opportunity not only for the student-athletes in the program, but for the overall student experience on campus,” MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon said in the release. “We are so grateful to Mark and Cindy Pentecost for their vision and commitment to help us give ‘Team MSU’ the opportunity for continued excellence.”
