Indian Govt Looks Abroad For Anti-Pyramiding Laws

 
From Saradha to Rose Valley and the Pearl scam, with a slew of ponzi-like financial frauds rocking the country in recent years, the government of India is also looking for solutions abroad.
Top government sources said that the finance ministry’s department of financial services (DFS) has obtained information about industry and regulatory practices from around the world in order to amend laws relating to ponzi-like, multi-level marketing pyramid schemes.

“A request had been sent to all the embassies and high commissions of India to gather all relevant information about legal and regulatory framework and industry practices for direct selling, multi-level marketing and pyramid marketing schemes in select countries,” an official document from a recent meeting said.

Philippines MLM Splash Profits Up 46% in Q1

 
Philippines based personal care direct selling Splash Corp. has started the year strong as it grew its earnings nearly half in the first quarter, coming off a net income plunge in 2014.
Splash said net income in the first three months of the year rose 46% to P49 million from P38 million in the same period last year.
“Thus net income for the first quarter of 2015 had already exceeded the net income for the whole year of 2014 by more than four times,” the homegrown beauty and personal care products maker said.
For full year 2014, the company’s net profit sank 84% to P12 million from P73 million in 2013 due to the absence of a P70 million extraordinary gain from the sale of a non-core asset.

Medifast Profits Fall 45%, Overhauls Board

 
Weight-loss company Medifast Inc. announced Monday that it would overhaul its board of directors under pressure from an activist investment firm, removing eight directors and adding five.
Medifast, is seeking to break into international markets and expand its national reach as it copes with growing competition from technology-driven diet programs on smartphones and other gadgets. CEO Michael MacDonald, who will continue as chairman, said the new board would help the company reach those goals.

The board members who are being replaced “were good board members but didn’t have the national experience or exposure that these guys were looking for,” MacDonald said. “What we’re doing now is putting in what we feel will be people who have very good skill sets to take us to that next level.”
