Tami Longaberger Battles CVSL Over Exit

Tami Longaberger’s departure from the basket-making company that her father founded has turned into a heated battle between her and CVSL, parent of the Longaberger Co.
Longaberger said CVSL failed to pay sales and use taxes and drastically cut her pay, while CVSL charged Longaberger with misconduct, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
The two sides also can’t agree on whether Longaberger, who left the company in early May, was fired or resigned.
Longaberger says in a resignation letter dated April 28 that she was resigning due to three reasons:

CVSL reduced her salary of $850,000 per year by $600,000 during a four-month “deferral period” that was never made up.
CVSL reduced her responsibilities and put another executive in charge at the Longaberger Co.
CVSL caused the Longaberger Co. to fail to pay sales and

Three Startups That Want To Steal Avon’s Look

With the “company for women” struggling, these three startups are hoping to take a big bite of the direct-sales beauty market.
Although a fake takeover bid recently led to a spike in Avon stock, the longtime cosmetics powerhouse built by millions of local “Avon ladies” has been slowly declining. After years as the top global direct sales company, Avon slipped out of that spot in 2014. The company’s revenue declined 20% last year to $8.85 billion, from a peak of $11.1 billion in 2011, and after a lengthy probe into corruption in its China operations, Avon agreed to pay a $135 million settlement.
So, are we looking at the end of the era in which women purchased beauty products from friends and neighbors who sold door-to-door? Not necessarily. There are a number of young, upstart companies that are trying to

Herbalife Retaliates With A Website Attacking Bill Ackman

Herbalife Ltd. went on the attack against nemesis Bill Ackman on Monday, debuting a website that paints the billionaire hedge fund manager as an irresponsible opportunist.
Therealbillackman.com includes media reports about legal probes into his anti-Herbalife campaign as well as videos detailing Ackman’s investment failures. The counterpunch comes more than two years after Ackman started a site called factsaboutherbalife.com to aid his campaign accusing Herbalife of running an illegal pyramid scheme.

“When Bill Ackman’s wrong, he’s really wrong,” one video caption on Herbalife’s website reads. Another asks, “Really, Bill?”

Herbalife’s new site is its most public response yet after plenty of maneuvering behind the scenes. The company overhauled its lobbying and public-relations staffs and hired outside help to bolster its image amid federal and state probes into its business practices. The company has repeatedly denied Ackman’s allegations.
Ackman didn’t
