Medifast will be announcing its first private-label sports nutrition products very soon, CEO Michael MacDonald said in an interview Thursday. Private labeling has companies licensing products they make to be sold under other companies’ names.
Starting with private labeling in the new market is right for Medifast because the company’s own brand is strictly associated with weight loss and meal replacement bars, MacDonald said. He expects the strategy to ease Medifast’s entry into a new market and expand its portfolio.
“You’re not going to get the athlete in great shape to be on the meal replacement,” MacDonald said. “You want to have sports nutrition for them.”
Medifast will start with a private-label arrangement with a “major university” and a “sports-oriented brand,” MacDonald said. He declined to share further details.

Vivint Solar And BlueWave Announce Community Solar Agreement

Vivint Solar, a provider of distributed solar energy systems in the United States, and BlueWave, a solar development and FinTech company headquartered in Boston, Mass., have announced an alliance to offer residents of Massachusetts the opportunity to become BlueWave community solar members.

Avon Will Not Exit Chinese Market

Avon Products Inc, the world’s largest direct seller of cosmetics, on Wednesday dismissed rumors that it is exiting China after a prolonged slump in sales. According to industry sources, the company has been facing a torrid time in China due to weakness in direct sales and product innovation.
“Avon is making good progress (in China) and we are confident that we have the right strategy to make the business profitable,” said a statement from the company.
“China has been an important market for us in the past 25 years and we will continue to leverage on our strong network of beauty boutiques and wide range of products for sustained growth,” it said.
