USA Justice Department Charged HyperFund Sam Lee, Rodney Burton and Brenda Chunga

Three Individuals Charged for Roles in $1.89B Cryptocurrency Fraud Scheme.

The Justice Department today announced charges against two individuals and the guilty plea of a third individual for orchestrating a $1.89 billion cryptocurrency fraud scheme.

Sam Lee, 35, an Australian citizen residing in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, was charged in an indictment unsealed today for allegedly co-founding HyperFund, also known as HyperTech, HyperCapital, HyperVerse, and HyperNation.
Rodney Burton, 54, of Miami, and Brenda Chunga, 43, of Severna Park, Maryland, were promotors of HyperFund.

“The defendants are charged with defrauding investors to the tune of $1.89 billion. As alleged in court documents, the defendants falsely represented that investors would receive substantial returns paid from cryptocurrency mining operations, which did not in fact exist,”

said Acting Assistant Attorney General Nicole M. Argentieri of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.

“With our partners in Homeland Security Investigations and IRS Criminal Investigation, we are committed to uncovering sophisticated frauds involving cryptocurrency and digital assets and bringing those who perpetrate them to justice.”

“The level of alleged fraud here is staggering,” said U.S. Attorney Erek L. Barron for the District of Maryland.

“Whether it’s cryptocurrency fraud, or any other financial frauds, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. This office

Courtney Epps Arrested After Presumably Nervous Breakdown

Network Marketing Tax consultant for a number of USA top leaders, as speaker on industry events Courtney Epps was arrested on 11 December after a Police chase in Florida, USA.
According to local online news:
Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested 41-year-old Courtney Epps, of Taylors, South Carolina, after chasing her speeding vehicle up U.S. 1, authorities said.
According to her arrest report, she was first observed in a gray Chevy Suburban speeding while going north in the southbound lanes, ignoring troopers as they pursued her with their lights and sirens on.
Troopers said they tracked Epps’ speed between 90 and 120 mph as she traveled across the Seven Mile Bridge and in Marathon, and that she maintained that speed regardless of oncoming traffic, instead moving to the southbound lanes when driving around northbound vehicles.

There were two attempts made by deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to stop Epps using spike strips. The second one, which was deployed at Mile Marker 71, was successful in spiking three tires, authorities said.

According to troopers, Epps continued on anyway, still traveling at a high rate of speed, eventually approaching hundreds of runners on the northbound shoulder of U.S. 1 who were participating in a half marathon.

Chinese Authorities Arrest 119 OneCoin Leaders, $7.1 Million Seized From Sebastian Greenwood, $2.4 Billion Involved

According to leading chinese website Sixthtone.com:
“Police in central China’s Hunan province recently cracked a digital currency pyramid scheme crime involving 15 billion yuan ($2.4 billion) and arrested 119 suspects, a local television station reported Monday.
Founded by a Bulgarian woman, Ruja Ignatova, OneCoin entered China in September 2014. Though it is promoted as a cryptocurrency, it operates a private blockchain, unlike popular rivals like bitcoin, which uses a transparent public ledger.
In December of last year, the Zhuzhou Intermediate People’s Court in Hunan ruled that OneCoin was an illegal pyramid scheme — a multilevel marketing business that raises profits primarily by recruiting new investors. The verdict also revealed that the organization had charged membership fees of 1,000 to 280,000 yuan. Law enforcement confiscated more than 1.6 billion yuan from the criminal network.
The phenomenal growth of cryptocurrencies over the past few years has attracted millions of investors while also creating opportunities for criminals to take advantage of hype around the technology.
Zhuzhou police were tipped off about OneCoin as early as March 2016, and in December the same year, state broadcaster China Central Television warned the public that OneCoin was one of more than 60 virtual currencies that exploited the concepts of blockchain technology

Amway India’s CEO Released From Jail After 2 Months

Direct-selling company Amway India on Monday said its MD and CEO William S Pinckney has been released on bail, two months after his arrest by Andhra Pradesh Police in connection with criminal cases registered against the firm in the state.
A spokesperson of Amway said Pinckney has been granted bail in all the cases in Andhra Pradesh.
Commenting on the development in a joint statement, Amway chairman Steve Van Andel and president Doug DeVos said: “The release of Amway India CEO Bill Pinckney is a great relief.”
They, however, added they were “profoundly dismayed that this unnecessary detention occurred at all, and are even more troubled that it lasted so long”.
Amway regional president, Europe, South Africa & India Samir Behl said: “His arrest and long detention was unnecessary and unreasonable. We will vigorously defend ourselves at trial.”
Pinckney was arrested on May 26 from Amway India’s headquarters at Gurgaon and later was produced before a court in district Kurnool, which sent him to judicial custody after rejecting his bail plea.
He was subsequently arrested in other criminal cases registered against him in the state on allegations of financial irregularities by Amway, a charge contested by the company.
“Our focus is squarely on efforts to ensure that

Amway Urges India To Release Bill Pinckney

Amway India’s CEO Bill Pinckney was arrested on May 26 at Amway’s headquarters in Gurgaon. At the time of this writing, he remains in police custody. This continued detention and harassment must end. Amway is a reputable company with 55 years of operating legally and ethically in more than 100 countries and territories worldwide.
And while the newly elected Union government in New Delhi played no role in this police action, we ask their help with the immediate release of Bill so he can be quickly and safely return to his family. To continue with this investigative retention when we have fully cooperated with all investigations and requests from authorities in India – including Andhra Pradesh – is unnecessary and unreasonable.
Whenever our business model has been questioned, we have shown up to provide answers. We have made every effort to be entirely transparent and forthcoming with authorities. If there is a problem, we want to fix it so we can continue to do business in India.
The underlying issue at hand is the lack of clear direct selling regulations that distinguish legitimate businesses like Amway from dishonest ones.
Additionally, provisions of the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act seem to be
